Grilled Street Corn Dip

Grilled Street Corn Dip

Grilled corn is one of our favorite summer staples. There's nothing better than the mix of smoky and sweet! A couple of weeks ago we kicked off grilling season with an all day friends and family grilling extravaganza. This dip was a highlight! It's great paired with veggies or chips and hearty enough to work as a side dish.

Dolmathes Stuffed Cabbage Leaves

Dolmathes Stuffed Cabbage Leaves

This is my Mom’s recipe for Dolmathes or Greek stuffed cabbage leaves.  I fondly remember the aroma of these filling our house, ensuring no-one was ever late to dinner when they were on the menu!  These Dolmathes are much larger and heartier than classic stuffed grape leaves and are a perfect family comfort food meal.  Make sure you have a loaf of rustic bread for dipping, so no juices go to waste!
Mother's Day Coffee (Two Ways)

Mother's Day Coffee (Two Ways)

My mom loves coffee. We call it her go go juice. Most morning's she's up around 5am, cup in hand planning her day. These recipes are inspired by her rugosa roses and garden fresh lavender.
Dutch Baby Pancake

Dutch Baby Pancake

When I was growing up, these pancakes were always a special treat. I used to eagerly watch them inflate and bubble in the oven. Filling with air, splitting on top and then slowly dropping as they were removed from the oven to cool - so much drama in a pan! Now, they're a regular Sunday morning meal. One joy of growing up is you realize how easy these magical meals are to make and share with the people you love.
Blueberry Fizz

Blueberry Fizz

Blueberry and lemon is a classic ingredient pairing we usually associate with baking, but spring has us craving familiar flavors without the heft of muffins, breads and scones. Our solution, the Blueberry Fizz. It's a fruity, naturally sweet beverage pretty enough for garden parties and tasty enough to feel like a treat. Pair it with white rum or vodka for an impressive at home cocktail.

Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus Tea reminds me of walks in the Caribbean, stopping to sample roadside BBQ and being handed a syrupy, vivid 'house tea'. Now, years later making it in Maine as the days get longer and the sun starts to have warmth again is the ultimate nostalgic treat.

This recipe is simple and the end result is versatile. On its own the tea is bold, it brightens up any cocktail (especially good with Gin and Tonics!) and mixed with seltzer and a splash of Lemon White Balsamic Vinegar, it's the perfect base for a shrub. Cheers!

Syrian Za'atar Roasted Cashews and Walnuts

Syrian Za'atar Roasted Cashews and Walnuts

Raw cashews and walnuts are two of my staple pantry ingredients and I recently found a new favorite use for them. Syrian Za'atar roasted nuts are a little but sweet, a little bit salty and pack just enough of a kick to keep you coming back for more. The roasted nuts keep for weeks and are quick to make - two of my favorite things when it comes to homemade snacks!

These nuts are great added to a charcuterie board or sprinkled on ice cream as a simple dessert.

Chicken and Porcini Mushroom Soup with Turmeric and Sweet Smoked Paprika Rice Cakes

Chicken and Porcini Mushroom Soup with Turmeric and Sweet Smoked Paprika Rice Cakes

Chicken is a staple in our kitchen and a whole roasted chicken is a typical Sunday night meal. We’re in waste not – want not mode, so this week’s roasted chicken leftovers were repurposed into a Chicken and Porcini Mushroom Soup. We happened to have day old rice in the fridge and decided to make griddled rice cakes to go along with the soup, but you could always add noodles or a wild rice blend for added texture and flavor.
Garbanzo Bean and Chorizo Soup

Garbanzo Bean and Chorizo Soup

I had this for the first time at a friend’s house. She’s known for hosting spontaneous dinner parties of 8 to 10 people that are always perfect – fun, simple, welcoming and just the right amount of chaos. It’s the kind of house where you walk in and immediately feel welcome and at home

Our group is filled with dietary restrictions (gluten free and dairy no gos), vegetarians who are occasionally pescatarians, dedicated meat eaters and kids ranging in age from 3 months to 8 years old. This soup satisfies all kinds of diners. Right up until you plop yogurt on top, it’s dairy free. Kid’s will happily eat it and the veggies hidden within. It’s gluten free (check your bouillon and Chorizo) and filling. And, most importantly, it’s quick to make!

Apple Crisp with Pumpkin Pie Spice

Apple Crisp with Pumpkin Pie Spice

This recipe is inspired by the apple crisp in Sam Sifton's Thanksgiving - How To Cook It Well. Fruit crisps are a favorite in my kitchen because they're quick to make and fun to adapt. Mr. Sifton also appreciates the flexible nature of crisps and says that 'on Thanksgiving, only apples are appropriate'. We agree with Mr. Sifton and took this seasonal variety one step further by adding our Pumpkin Pie Spice
Panch Phoron Soda Bread

Panch Phoron Soda Bread

Cooler days are here and we're craving warm, simple eats. This bread is easy to make and quick to disappear. Full disclosure, we had it for dinner last night, breakfast this morning and paired a chunk with today's lunch. There's no such thing as too much Panch Phoron Soda Bread!
Korean BBQ Wings

Korean BBQ Wings

I hate to say it, but these wings are finger-licking good. The perfect mix of spicy, sweet, sticky, savory goodness. Enjoy!
