Being in Portland, Maine, we're surrounded by new and exciting restaurants, food trucks, and pop up events constantly! Being on Fore Street specifically, we're lucky to have a handful of those local food businesses stop by regularly to pick up some ingredients for their menu.

Brad's Favorite Portland Activities

Brad's Favorite Portland Activities

Hi I'm Brad, a Sales Associate at SKORDO. I'm a recent transplant to Portland, Maine. My girlfriend and I moved to the city from West Virginia a year ago. We have definitely fallen in love with the area. I think calling Portland a city really isn't fair. It feels and operates like an oversized beach town.

Moving to Portland after one visit is a common theme and there are no exceptions here, but my inspiration to move may be a little different. While I love all of Portland's food, I chose Maine to satisfy my sense of adventure and I've found more fun stuff to do in Portland than I thought possible.

Shannon's Portland Weekend

Shannon's Portland Weekend

Hi, I'm Shannon, Store Manager at SKORDO.  I am 24 and this is my third year living in Portland.

Thanks to my collection of restaurant, bakery and catering jobs and my following each and every food business online, I stay quite connected to the cities food industry. I am grateful to folks like Portland Food Map and Food Truck a Lico for giving the quick 411 on where to be and what Portland food to eat at the click of a button. Each time I have friends come to town, I throw together a different list of must see’s, but the following recommendations are a few of my favorite things to do  and places to eat in Portland, Maine

Niyati + Abhi of Baking It dish on family cooking and Licious Lens

We spent the holiday season of 2021 immersed in Baking It on Peacock. The humor of Maya Rudolph and Andy Samberg mixed with sassy grandmothers and an excellent cast of home cooks created the perfect sweet escape. Niyati Nakra and Abhi Chhabra quickly stood out from the crowd thanks to their dedication to gluten free bakes, supportive and playful approach to cooking and fearless use of flavors. After the show aired, Niyati and Abhi reached out to SKORDO. We're thrilled to share a recipe from their home kitchen and an interview with these accomplished home cooks. Enjoy!

Natural Egg Dyeing-SKORDO Kitchen Blog

Natural Egg Dyeing

Decorating eggs is one of my favorite childhood memories. At our house it was all about the add-ons: Rubber bands for a tie dyed effect, Crayon drawing, dripped wax, intentional cracks, even glued on 'hair' for portrait eggs - you name it, we gave it a try.

This years approach was back to basics. In place of store bought box kits, I raided our pantry and fridge for natural dyes. The end results were muted pastels fit for a grown up Easter basket.

Fennel Pollen

Fennel Pollen

This ingredient is for any home cook craving a trip to Italy. Fennel Pollen reminds us of sunshine. It illuminates everything it touches and a little goes a very long way. It is bright, fun and more affordable than a flight to Rome. Plus, it's one of the most requested items in our shops. Curious? Read on to learn all why this is a spice rack essential.
