Our Recipe Kits are a consistent team member and customer favorite! Whether you have recently been gifted one of our Recipe Kits or already have some in your pantry, and you’re unsure how to use them, here’s our deep dive and some helpful tips + tricks.
These kits make meal inspiration easy, particularly if you want to try a new dish or cuisine or need a fresh meal-planning idea. Most kits make between 4-8 servings. The kits include:
- All of the herbs and spices for a dish, perfectly measured out for you
- A recipe card with all the instructions you need to make the dish (Tip: keep the card to remake the dish again and again!)
- A detailed list of what is in each spice packet so you can buy the individual spices/blends after trying
- Vegetarian/vegan substitutions are included on some of the recipe cards, but you can always ask a team member for ideas for making others vegetarian/vegan friendly!
Here are some tips when it comes time to make:
- Read instructions for prep and cook time in advance. Some of the kits take a few hours or overnight for marinating or cooking in a slow cooker/smoker.
- To cut back on time or to make prep easier, make swaps like using canned beans instead of dried in the Amchoor Chana or using jackfruit instead of beef in Yuli’s Beef Rendang (which also will make this dish vegan friendly!)
- Look for portions of the recipe that can be made in advance, such as the beef or pickled onions in the Barbacoa Tacos or the tzatziki sauce in our New York Food Truck Meatballs.
- Swap out the equipment if you don’t have what the recipe calls for. For example, in the Chicken Tagine, you can swap out the tagine dish for a large soup pot. Or use a slow cooker instead of a pressure cooker/Instant Pot in the Barbacoa Tacos. Want to try the Moroccan Kebabs but don't have a grill? We suggest using a grill pan inside over medium-high heat!
- Add extra ingredients for even more flavorful and heartier meals. Try adding scallop chunks to our Halibut Shakshuka kit!
Need a quick gift for a celebration or holiday? These kits are the perfect way to give your loved one a new experience! Or stock up as a fun treat for your next house guest or your pet sitter!
Our team members love to keep them on hand for those nights when inspiration can’t be found elsewhere. SKORDO Old Port shop manager, Jimmy, makes our Spicy Thai Peanut Ramen kit at least once a week! Team member, Kayla, loves to make our Chicken Tagine without the chicken and serves it with a side of rice for a meatless meal.
“Some how having the right spices makes the rest of the recipe and cooking really doable.”
