Licorice Root

Licorice root, with it's sweet, earthy, anise-like flavor, is used in both sweet and savory dishes. Add it to an Asian style stock or marinade or a Chinese soy sauce. You can also add a pinch to your Chinese five spice blend for an enhanced flavor. Infuse teas, syrups, sauces, and custards with licorice root - simply add the root, heat, and remove before serving! If you are experimental in the kitchen, try making a licorice flavored ice cream.
