Asafetida - Ground

Asafetida, a bitter and musky Indian spice, has an intense flavor and should not be eaten alone; however fry it in oil and you will find a pleasant, onion-like taste. Use it sparingly in any dish where garlic would be appropriate and you will find that a small amount of Asafetida can significantly enhance the flavor of the dish. It pairs well with fresh or salted fish, meat, grains, legumes, and most vegetables. It is a key ingredient for Chat Masala and many curry powders, carrying a bold, aromatic flavor that Indian cuisine is renowned for.
