August: Summer Harvest

This month is all about capturing peak garden flavors for mid-winter enjoyment. We’re going to experiment with fermentation, make a few jars of fresh-from-the-garden tomato sauce and come up will all sorts of ways to celebrate our backyard bounties. Who knows, we may even try drying our own herbs.

The Noma Guide to Fermentation and The Farmhouse Culture Guide to Fermenting are going to help us expand our confidence in the kitchen. Both books provide expansive how-tos for novice and expert fermenters alike with layouts and recipes that encourage creativity along the way. Lacto Fermented Blueberries and brined Za’atar Spiced Vegetables sound too good to pass up!
